The Braggs, enabling a transdisciplinary approach to research.

The Braggs at the University of Adelaide is the vibrant home for the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS). Designed to advance physics, chemistry, and biology, The Braggs completes the University of Adelaide’s North Terrace campus’s science and research precinct.
The architecture balances technical precision with creating engaging spaces to inspire connection and creativity among researchers and students. Two vertical streets—a five-storey atrium and a seven-storey veranda—form the heart of the building, seamlessly linking research, teaching, and social spaces while connecting back to the broader campus.

The Braggs is wrapped in a concertina glass envelope—a crystalline form that captures ever-changing reflections. Solid panels in terracotta tones bookend the facility and visually tie together the contemporary architecture with neighbouring masonry structures on campus.
More than a research facility, The Braggs symbolises its photonics core, creating an integrated environment for transdisciplinary scientific discovery.
