New BVN Brisbane Studio opens

Minister Leanne Enoch launches our “building that breathes” based on Designing with Country principles.

Bathed in sunlight, surrounded by greenery and entwined with nature, The Annex is a city pad and tropical treehouse perfectly suited to Brisbane’s sub-tropical CBD.

It’s also the new home to BVN Brisbane! On Thursday 5 May close to 200 colleagues and friends joined us to launch the studio, and the building known as The Annex. Minister Leanne Enoch officiated and paid tribute to the strong connections between the building and Country. David Williams filled the space with sound, performing traditional music on the didgeridoo. And BVN Principal Brian Donovan spoke about the importance and privilege of designing buildings unique to Brisbane’s subtropical terrain, climate and culture. It was a joyful and fitting celebration for an architectural project close to our hearts.

Situated near the edge of the Brisbane River, The Annex sits atop a buzzing social precinct. Back-lit laser-cut panels glitter over these spaces, evoking the sensation of dappled sunlight beneath the fig trees. It’s an homage to the stunning, historic fig trees across the road which inspired the building’s unique shape. In fact, at every level, it’s easy to feel in dialogue with these trees as their presence is so interwoven.

Awning windows give tenants the option for fresh air and a connection with the outdoors. It’s a breathing facade that promotes a genuine connection with the outdoors, promoting wellbeing. And joy.

The upper three levels are designed as a mantle for a cascading garden. The uppermost occupied level and roof volume provides cover to the Sky Terrace, an elegant beacon, identifying the building from near and far. As a rooftop seen ‘in the round’, it’s made from perforated metal using the trademark fig canopy motif.

We hope to see many of our clients, colleagues and friends in The Annex very soon.
