BVN Celebrates a Mid-Year Awards

It’s been a bonanza few months of awards and accolades for BVN.

A bunch of bright sparks in our clever collective have scooped up 14 wins and another 11 commendations over the mid-year awards season. In the last two months, BVN have been given top honours at the AIA Victoria, NSW, Queensland and Brisbane Regional Chapter Awards, the UDIA NSW Awards and the Australian Interior Design Awards.

Here’s a snapshot of the winning projects:

Sirius: UDIA NSW Design Excellence Award

Sirius is the story of survival and adaption. BVN and the client’s vision aligned to retain the original building and understand the building’s architectural and cultural importance to Sydney’s community. The design proposal for the adaptive reuse of the Sirius building is consistent with the principle of retaining the existing building with integrity.

International Grammar School: AIA NSW Educational Architecture Award

The IGS Bibliothèque was created from a library and a number of smaller spaces which no longer met the client’s teaching and learning requirements. In their place, students now have space to unleash their imaginations and deepen their knowledge daily. BVN also transformed some classrooms and a much-loved but worn-out drama space into the two-level IGS Centre for the Dramatic Arts.

Multiplex HQ: AIA NSW Interior Architecture Award

A redesign of Multiplex’s Sydney headquarters presented an opportunity to create a place that inspires excitement for learning, making, and solving complex problems. The new workplace is an authentic reflection of the company’s identity, focusing on their people and their culture. With teams located across NSW, the space needed to address the challenge of bringing site teams and head office together - realising their strong desire to establish an environment where all teams felt a sense of belonging.

Brisbane South State Secondary College: 2 Wins at AIA Queensland – Educational Architecture Award and Interior Architecture Award

This inner-city school exudes energy and aspiration. It highlights how much education has evolved to become about collaboration, curiosity and creative learning. The school is also a stunning example of regenerative architecture. It’s deeply connected to Country, and First Nations relationships with the land. And this embeds another unique layer of learning for students.

Queen & Collins: 4 AIA Vic Awards including "The Melbourne Award"

At the Paris end of Collins St, three neo-gothic buildings have been transformed into a striking workplace. It's a far cry from pre-pandemic office life. It's a "work-life precinct" with premium designed shared spaces, run by a concierge service.

Queen & Collins is a radical adaptation of three neo-gothic inspired buildings co-located on a high-profile corner block of Melbourne’s CBD. It represents an ambitious and dynamic design – the result of a very successful collaboration between BVN and KTA.

BVN Brisbane Studio in The Annex: 3 Wins at AIDA and AIA Regional Brisbane Awards and the GHM Addison Award for Interior Architecture, AIA Queensland Awards

We recently relocated our Brisbane Studio into The Annex building (designed by BVN) to be immersed in its distinctive, urban, tree-house character. The project gave us a chance to create a memorable studio experience for our people, through both experiential delight and to make a genuine connection to Country. Lush, green, fresh, and open this is a simply beautiful place to work.

Multiplex HQ: Workplace of the Year, AIDA

Redesigning Multiplex HQ in Sydney presented an opportunity for BVN to imagine a workplace dedicated to complex problem solving, bold thinking, and innovation in motion. The result: an authentic reflection of the company’s identity, focusing on its pioneering people and culture. A showcase of the business as a true industry innovator.
